This picture was part of a commission from the Centre National des Arts Plastiques in 1990. The artist took photos of six people from Aurillac. This one shows Didier Vignes, who is in charge of the collection at the museum, standing in front of a painted background. The scale model is of the Maison Consulaire in Aurillac.

Comments by the pupils:

This photo does not catch your eye… but let’s take a closer look anyway.

There are three elements: a haunted-looking house, a “giant”, and a messy background.
This backdrop dominates the picture. The repetitive ink blots are like something in a Rorschach psychology test.

The atmosphere of mystery (the inky dark forest, the “flames”, the devilish man with his claw-like hands, the old boarded-up house, etc.) would have been better brought out had the photo been of a bigger format.

If you know the man in this photo, you will agree that it is not a good portrait of him; Didier is an angel!

Cette photographie fait partie d’une commande du Centre National des Arts Plastiques en 1990. L’artiste a photographié six personnes à Aurillac, dont ici Didier Vignes, adjoint du patrimoine au musée, devant une toile de fond peinte. La maquette représente la Maison Consulaire d’Aurillac.

Commentaires des élèves :

A première vue, cette œuvre est sans grand intérêt… Mais regardons-la de plus près.

On peut distinguer trois ensembles : une maison « hantée », un personnage « géant », et un fond barbouillé.

Cet arrière plan irréel domine les autres éléments. Les tâches d’encre répétées ressemblent à celles utilisaient dans les tests psychologique de Rorschach.

Le côté mystérieux (la forêt de tâches, les « flammes », l’homme diabolique avec ses mains rapaces, la vielle maison abandonnée…) aurait été surement mieux mis en valeur par un format plus grand.

Quand on connait l’homme qui figure dans cette image, on sait que ce n’est pas un portrait réussi ; Didier est un ange !
